Impervious Carpet

Impervious carpet backing is normally used where cleanability is an important factor. Impervious carpet offers varying degrees of impermeability. Aqueous liquids, such as water, can normally penetrate through conventional carpet. So, in cases where water is spilled on conventional carpet, it typically seeps through and ultimately reaches the flooring below. This trapped water can lead to bacterial or fungal growth, which can cause unpleasant odours and deterioration of carpet backing or flooring. In the impervious carpet, the backing prevents water from passing through the carpet. Spillages can be cleaned and removed quickly and effectively.

The impervious backing in the carpet also permits washing of the carpet with generous amounts of water without wetting the subfloor. As a result, impervious carpets can be shampooed and wet methods used on them for regular maintenance.
